The Wireless Power Consortium is an open, collaborative and not-for-profit group of more than 350 companies around the world that work together to set the standards for safety, compatibility and quality for wireless power.
Why are standards important?
Electronic products should be designed to be safe and interoperable with related devices. That's what standards are for. The WPC creates and manages rigorous testing procedures before products can qualify to be Qi Certified. So, consumers can be assured that Qi Certified products are safe, reliable and compatible across the ecosystem.

Topping off your charge is better for your battery than repeated deep recharging with a wired charger. And Qi Certified chargers automatically shut off when your device is full, saving energy.

Safe from foreign objects
Qi Certified chargers include Foreign Object Detection (FOD) that automatically stops charging if something is in the way (like a coin, bank card or other metal object). Non-certified chargers without FOD can heat objects to the point where they can cause third degree burns.
Safe from heat
All chargers, including Qi, generate heat as they operate. In the unlikely event that a charger does become too hot, a detector will automatically shut charging down for safety.
Safe to charge overnight
You don’t need to worry about leaving devices charging overnight. Qi chargers know when your device has full battery and automatically stop charging.
